In the last nearly four years I have lived in seven places, in four cities and three countries, not counting residencies and shorter trips. I have treated each of these places as my home, although sometimes I knew in advance that it was temporary. When the passage of years coincides with growing fatigue, the need to have something that is yours, that, if only in theory, is permanent in this unstable world, grows inside. I almost have my home: a common life, furniture, textiles, tools, accessories, even a favourite kitchen tap that I twist and turn, but I have no walls and no roof.

W przeciągu ostatnich niespełna 4 lat mieszkałam w 7 miejscach, w 4 miastach i w 3 krajach, nie licząc rezydencji i krótszych wyjazdów. Każde z tych miejsc traktowałam jako mój dom, chociaż czasem z góry wiedziałam, że tymczasowy. Kiedy upływ lat zbiega się z narastającym zmęczeniem, potrzeba posiadania czegoś, co jest twoje, co choćby w teorii jest stałe w tym niestałym świecie, narasta w środku. Prawie mam swój dom: wspólne życie, meble, tekstylia, narzędzia, dodatki, nawet ulubioną baterię kuchenną, którą wykręca i wprawiam, nie mam jednak ścian i dachu.

The Interior exhibition opens up a space for reflection on the notion of home – both as a physical place and as a symbolic space in which a woman faces her daily challenges, intimacy and expectations. The works on display, including photographs from the series Internal Landscapes, created in collaboration with Mateusz Sarełło, as well as the premiere realisations, draw a narrative that is personal, yet not isolated – touching on the universal experience of the search for one’s place and, at the same time, the experience of the gap between the need for stability and a reality full of uncertainty. The photographs analyse the performative presence of the female body in domestic spaces – in their raw state, under construction – which become a metaphor for the process of inhabitation. The gestures and movements of the body that refer to everyday domestic practices, devoid of the context of physical objects, create a choreography that transcends traditional ideas about the role of women in the home. The body, as a tool embedded in patriarchal structures, negotiates its presence in space, and the repetition of gestures releases new meanings, revealing hidden tensions and the potential for liberation.

In the Interior, the home is not just an architectural structure, but first and foremost an affective space – a place where we look at the condition of the contemporary woman, trapped in a constant dynamic of relocation, search and redefinition of what it means to have one’s place.

Wystawa „Wewnętrze” otwiera przestrzeń refleksji nad pojęciem domu – zarówno jako fizycznego miejsca, jak i przestrzeni symbolicznej, w której kobieta mierzy się z codziennymi wyzwaniami, intymnością oraz oczekiwaniami. Prezentowane prace, w tym fotografie z cyklu „Internal Landscapes”, stworzone wspólnie z Mateuszem Sarełło, oraz premierowe realizacje, kreślą narrację osobistą, choć nieodosobnioną – dotykając uniwersalnego doświadczenia poszukiwania swojego miejsca, a jednocześnie doświadczenia przepaści między potrzebą stabilności a rzeczywistością pełną niepewności. Fotografie analizują performatywną obecność kobiecego ciała w przestrzeniach domowych – w stanie surowym, w budowie – które stają się metaforą procesu zasiedlania. Gesty i ruchy ciała odwołujące się do codziennych praktyk domowych, pozbawione kontekstu fizycznych przedmiotów, tworzą choreografię, przekraczającą tradycyjne wyobrażenia o roli kobiety w domu. Ciało, jako narzędzie osadzone w patriarchalnych strukturach, negocjuje swoją obecność w przestrzeni, a powtarzalność gestów uwalnia nowe znaczenia, odsłaniając ukryte napięcia i potencjał wyzwolenia.

W „Wewnętrzu” dom nie jest wyłącznie konstrukcją architektoniczną, ale przede wszystkim przestrzenią afektywną – miejscem, w którym przyglądamy się kondycji współczesnej kobiety, uwięzionej w ciągłej dynamice relokacji, poszukiwań i redefinicji tego, co oznacza posiadanie swojego miejsc.

Realizacja projektu „Krajobrazy Środka” zrealizowana została przy wsparciu projektu Wszyscy Jesteśmy Fotografami: Portret Osobisty vol. 3, FUJIFILM Polska, Stypendium z Funduszu Popierania Twórczości Stowarzyszenia Autorów ZAiKS, Stypendium Prezydenta Miasta Lublin oraz Stypendium „Młoda Polska”, przyznawanego przez Ministra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego oraz Narodowe Centrum Kultury.

Marta Zgierska – Visual artist. Currently a PhD student in the Doctoral School of Humanities / Institute of Fine Arts, Marie Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin. She holds MFA in Photography (Polish National Film School in Lodz), MA in Theatrology and MA in Journalism. In her artwork she deals with the subject of trauma, liminal experiences and associated tensions. Since the serious car accident, her physically affected body has naturally become a tool for exploring reality. She explores the canons of feminine beauty and undermines the pressure that the contemporary society exerts on the woman’s image. Her works have exhibited in numerous museums, galleries and festivals. Winner of Prix HSBC pour la Photographie 2016 and many other awards and grants. In 2018 she was nominated for the Foam Paul Huf Award 2018 and the DZ BANK Art Collection Fellowship 2019. In 2019 she was named Artist of the Year at the DongGang International Photo Festival in South Korea.
